RE: Trump's words are making racism seem OK

in #america7 years ago

Not sure how long you have played politics or how deep you played, but Trump is not making racism OK, and what he said had a lot of truth to it. Please take time to read the "other side" - somewhere in the middle is a shade of the truth. The GOP and the Dems are puppets on the same hidden hand, allowing yourself to be sucked into choosing up a side serves that hidden tyrant. Rise above it!

So you prefer to keep the name calling going rather than engage in meaningful dialogue? Disappointing, first time I have encountered that here but it had to happen.

Do my memes trigger you? What sort of dialogue do you expect when you stand with Nazis and Confederates?

How do you expect to improve communication by lumping people into groups? You DO understand that even Nazis and Confederates were humans, and if their ideology is having a resurgence we need to TALK about it, we will not fix it with calling names and starting shooting.
No, your memes actually make me laugh, I still have a sense of humor, but they are designed to entrench us all on "our team" and as a person who refuses to pick a "team" of idiots to join (both sides are FULL of idiots) it makes me a little sad. We will end up in a civil war if that is the best anyone can do.
Ever read the "other side" on the Nazis? If you REALLY want to prevent a resurgence of that ideology, you need to REALLY understand what happened the first time. History is written by the winners. You need to see what the losers had to say, too, to fully understand what happened.

I read A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn. It describes in horrific detail what happens to the victims of colonialism and empire. I have also watched several Nazi propaganda pieces like Hellstorm and Greatest Story Never Told. I get it. War sucks for all parties involved. I don't want another civil war either, and that's why I refuse to remain neutral. You don't remain neutral in the face of an ideology that advocates genocide. That's not how you prevent war.

Ah - now we are getting somewhere! I am NOT advocating remaining neutral. I am advocating deal with REAL people in YOUR real world. The internet is too anonymous, it is just a keyboard and screen, not a real human over there...
But I AM a real human, and I am certainly no "Nazi" and I think the white guys with tiki torches are some of the funniest clowns I've seen a while... except it is NOT funny. It is quite serious. Just not REAL. Our first exchage you pretty much struck me as an asshat, but I am warming up to you now. All I require is people who are talking to ME to talk to ME, not speak in generalities about "people like me" when there is no one LIKE me, there is me, and there is other people.
Truth is our common ground, lies and liars our common enemy.
May I recommend "War Is A Racket" by Major General Smedley Butler? I wish I could get every Republican I know to read it, they would finally get over their Bush-worship. But if you are genuine in your desire to stand for what is right, you will get some great ammo to peacefully use in conversations with your neighbors.
Love ya' man!

I read a lot of War is a Racket, just in the form of excerpts, during my libertarian phase, but I have never actually read the entire book. It's on my list, and your mentioning it may actually bump it up to where I will get to it in the next year or so. Right now, my reading is mostly focused on economic inequality. I keep trying to finish The Worldly Philosophers by Robert L. Heilbroner, but I keep coming back to steemit. The book doesn't listen when I want to talk back, and it definitely doesn't let me give myself a nickel for each comment.

See, that made me laugh too. I think we would get along very well if we could sit down and have a beer and chat about the shit we agree on. There is, no doubt, a LOT we agree on.
And that is the thing... those comic book "white supremacists" with the Kmart tiki torches may be real humans, but they are pretty rare... I never met one, and I live in Idaho. People with bad information are a dime a dozen... finding a way to seek truth together, and stop letting the governmedia play "divide and conquer" on us all the time is getting to be critical to our survival as a species. My vote is worth nothing but you got upvoted anyway... thanks for the laugh.
