Time To Dream Again

in #ambition8 years ago (edited)

Today, as I was leaving work for a lunch meeting, I saw a bird flying near the front of my building. It was so beautiful, and I watched it closely, because I had never seen one like it before. It had rust colored wings, sprinkled with black and white spotting and some golden tones. Even the way it flew was pretty, so graceful and different.

I kept my eye on it, and after a second it closed up its wings and landed. I then realized that I have seen birds like that more times than I could remember, but I've only ever seen them on the ground -- plain, tiny, and brown with their little feet on the grass. It looked so ordinary, until it took flight.

Sometimes I feel so ordinary. So insignificant.

I wonder if it's because I spend so much time on the ground + not enough time spreading my wings to fly higher?

It gets harder and harder to remember to dream the older we get. Life gets so busy, we're so preoccupied. Not to mention, we've seen dreams crash and burn or with all the hopes in the world, dreams that just never caught enough wind to take flight at all. So, we put them back in the hanger + hope people forget we ever believed something so impossible could really happen to us.

Sometimes it's hard to dream and believe in what we have inside our hearts. Sometimes we're disillusioned and just need a break from having our head in the clouds. But it's time to dream again.
Because dreaming is the only thing that lifts our hearts back where they've belonged all along.
If you feel ordinary today, take flight + remind yourself how rare you really are :)
