From my limited understanding patents are ALOT more complicated than trademarks. A trademark can simply be a name, a phrase or a logo. You dont have to provide any drawings beyond an image of the logo or font which is optional. A patent you need very detailed drawings and writings showing the designs. Even just the research process can cost thousands and thousands of Dollars. A neighbor of mine spent $11,000 just to research to find out his idea was already taken.
