Jeff Bezos and his 127-meter sailor in Rotterdam... should they dismantle a bridge because of him?

in #amazon3 years ago

Jeff Bezos is having the company Oceanco in Rotterdam create a giant sailor for him. The total length of the boat will be 127 meter and it is created in Rotterdam at the facilities of Oceanco. There is just one tiny problem... in order to get the ship to sea it will need to pass through a location at which The De Hef bridge is currently located. This is a bridge that cannot just be opened and closed, meaning that it has to be dismantled in order for the giant boat to pass by. It is expected that the cost of this will be at least 100,000 Euro, a cost that has to be paid by Jeff Bezos (of course).

To be honest, I believe Jeff Bezos has spent the same amount of an expensive bottle of Champagne once (just a guess), meaning that the price will not cause much trouble for him. If you think about the boat itself and the interior I do not even dare to think about how much it actually costs to construct it and the interior and the exterior and everything about it. It is for sure an extreme amount, meaning that 100,000 Euro in one direction or another will not give or take much.

That leads to the question... is it okay to dismantle a bridge like this for rich guys to have fun and to get around with their boats? Some people are furious about it, while others consider it to be fine... as long as the rich pay and the money can be used for something good afterward.

What do you think?
