Blue Origin, 18-year-old student will fly into space with Bezos next week
On July 15th, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company Blue Origin revealed on Thursday that the 18-year-old physics student Oliver Damen will fly into space in place of bidders who remained anonymous in public auctions last month. The latter's winning bid was 28 million U.S. dollars.
Da Goal will join Bezos, his brother Mark Bezos, and the legendary aerospace pioneer Wally Funk (Wally Funk) in Blue Origin's new product launch event scheduled for July 20th. The Shepard rocket flew to the edge of space.
Blue Origin stated that the young physics student would replace the successful bidder, who was unable to perform the task due to a "schedule conflict." The company stated that the auction winner “has chosen to fly in a future New Shepard mission.”
According to Blue Origin, Damen will be the "first paying customer" to ride the New Shepard rocket, but did not disclose how much he paid. In addition, Damen will become the youngest person to fly into space, and the 82-year-old Fink will become the oldest astronaut.
The new Shepard rocket sent the capsule to an altitude of more than 340,000 feet (104 kilometers) and has successfully conducted more than a dozen unmanned test flights, including the Blue Origin facility in the Texas desert in April. A test flight was conducted. This rocket can carry up to 6 people and can fly automatically without a pilot. The space capsule has huge windows, and passengers can see the earth below under weightlessness for about three minutes, and then return to the ground.
