Malaysia's new leader says his predecessor, the former Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife, have been barred from leaving the country.

Mahathir Mohamad says it is to stop them fleeing from possible prosecution over a corruption scandal, days after a shocking electoral defeat that ended the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition's 60-year grip on power.
