Review of Alien: Covenant
Spoilers
Beautiful on the screen, sketchy character behavior, utterly vicious violence.
Alien: Covenant is another "let's go see...Holy Crap! Run!" and then nearly everyone dies in horrible, horrible ways story in the Alien franchise.
Both Prometheus and Covenant are so beautifully shot that I could be convinced to pay to see panoramic shots of the locations done by the film's cinematographer, Dariusz Wolski. No human shredding aliens needed, thanks.

The characters can be afforded some leeway for their behavior since they don't know how horrible things are going to get. I wonder, though, why there weren't better protocols for interacting with unknown lifeforms. Long story short, if someone you have good reason to doubt (He's a little to friendly with things that just bit your friend's head off, for instance.) don't look in the box. "What's in the box?' What's in the box?" Leave the box or pod alone. Also, nuke the site from orbit is the best policy in any Alien film ever. Surprised more people don't think of this.
The violence is so abrupt and overwhelming that it effectively conveys the idea that the Aliens are far better at fighting than we are. In fact, its rather hopeless to begin to get into it with one of the critters even when they are literally seconds old. Were are "nature's nachos" to them.
There is hope for future installments. David, the android from Prometheus, survives and seems intent on building a better species using humans as wombs. I suspect he will be devoured by his creation as the life he creates get's out of hand. Here's hoping the end is a little bit more rewarding than just that, though.
Covenant was a tough watch despite its beauty imagery. Faith is mocked and humanity is shown as a substandard species dependent on technology and luck for its survival.
As a cryptocurrency fan like so many of you I couldn't help but wonder how all the glorious technology in the film related to blockchain technology. We are in a new paradigm. We've proved we can invent our way out of trouble. Hopefully TPTB won't sic the dogs/aliens on us for being disobedient.
