CISAB S1-E11 AK47 7.62x39 vs Hard Drive
Episode 11 of #canitstopabullet Season 1 we bring out the irrefutable weapon of war... the #ak47 and see if it has what it takes to penetrate a #seagateST34342A #harddrive
In this test we found the Hard Drive was not able to withstand the intense penetration force of the high speed 7.62x39 round from the AK 47. If you follow our instagram @CANITSTOPABULLET you can see that Hard drives at close range have very limited stopping power against most types of projectiles. It is worth noting however, that we have had many instances of hard drives stopping pistol rounds (.40, and .45) although our tests show different results. This depends on the makeup of the hard drives, the distance at which you shoot them, and the age of the Hard drive. We have found that newer Hard drives, for whatever reason, withstand shot many times better than older HDDs.

Standard 3.5 inch drives use aluminium core platters inside of them as the read write medium that actually stores the data magnetically. In disk manufacturing, a thin coating is deposited on both sides of the aluminum Platter, mostly by a vacuum deposition process called magnetron sputtering. The coating has a complex layered structure consisting of various metallic (mostly non-magnetic) alloys as underlayers.
