UPPER LIMB NERVE- INTEGRITY TESTS

in #air-clinic6 years ago (edited)

Helloo guys,

Just imagine, what if your hands won’t work the next morning. Its horrible to imagine. Without hands we can’t do any work possible to think. Most important thing for steemians, we can’t post and can’t earn 😛.

Hand is the “tool of tools”.
-Aristotle

Test your HANDS.

Its very important to test the functioning of our hands. Especially the power and sensations of Hand. Many a times most of the dreadly diseases show their signs in hands, like Leprosy.

We might neglect some simple symptoms like tremors in hands, numbness and loss of power. But they may indicate a serious problem behind it. An unhealed ulcer with loss of sensations over the lateral(outer) half of the hand may indicate leprosy.
This is reason to test our hands and integrity of nerves involved in our hands.
It will be quite funny and simple also.

HOW TO TEST THE INTEGRITY OF HANDS.

First of all, we need to find the major nerves involved in our hands and the muscles they supply.

  1. ULNAR NERVE:
    *Adductor policis muscle
    *Palmar interossei
  • Flexor pollicis
  • Dorsal interossei
  1. MEDIAN NERVE
  • Thenar muscles.
  • Abductor pollicis brevis
  • Flexor digitorum profundus
  • Flexor digitorum superficialis
  1. RADIAL NERVE
  • Extensors of wrist.

WHAT ARE THE TESTS??

FOR ULNAR NERVE

  1. FROMENT SIGN
See the right thumb, the person with weakness in the adductor pollicis cannot hold a paper between thumb and index finger like the one holding with left thumb.
The person tries to flex this thumb, so hold it tight.

2)EGAWA TEST
I didn’t get the right pic, so i got you a video link where you can see it.

FOR MEDIAN NERVE.

  1. PEN TEST
In this test, the patient is asked to keep his hand flat with palm facing upwards, amd touch the pen holding above the palm.

  • OCHSNERS CLASP
In this test, as there is damage or loss of median nerve , patients can make a strong fist and the position of hand will ne different.

    FOR RADIAL NERVE

    1. WRIST DROP
In this test, the patients can’t extend his wrist joint and it is demonstrated in the video below.

Thank you guys, i hope you got some good information about your hands and testing their functions. Apart from knowledge you will have good fun, testing hands of your friends and relatives.

    I thank @air-clinic, @steemstem for their support.

My sincere thanks to @chloroform for guiding me to make good posts with proper rules, sorry sir i tried a lot to get pics which are free from copyrights but i didn’t get one. So i used some videos from youtube. Hope you like it.

    Hi @vinaykumarr.

    • First of all, you need to think carefully about the topic of your article whether it is practical for people or not. I know you have a good intention but in my opinion, this kind of article would benefit medical students or anyone related to orthopaedic and not laymen. Nerve integrity tests were usually conducted to screen people who were suspected to have some problems with either of their muscles, tendons or nerves. Negative findings would often be confirmed by a series of related investigations (biochemical, imaging or special tests)
    • The first images, what is the source?
    • You need to cite your article's references or any link that people can go to if they want to do some further reading.
    • The most important thing is to remind your audience that if they couldn't perform one of the nerve integrity tests, they shouldn't assume or panic just yet. Consult a physician to confirm. They would do a series of tests to properly diagnose someone.

p/s: Pick a simple health-related topic. If you were good, you can write a great article about a simple topic.

Yeah, no one will get into a conclusion just by reading someones post. They definetly will consult their doctor.
My point is not to take these conditions easy and stay at home as many people do.
    Anyway, thank you sir.
