The issue of drug abuse is a sensitive topic and must be dealt with urgently.
Firstly I will like to give definition of terms
What is a drug?
A drug is any substance or product that is used or is intended to be used to modify or explore physiological systems or pathological states for the benefit of the recipient.
But in these contest the term drug means addictive or abused substance.
What is drug abuse?
Drug abuse refer to the use of a drug by self medication in a manner and amount that deviates from the approved medical and social patterns in a given culture at a given time.
The term convey social disapproval of the manner and purpose of drug use.
there are two major patterns of drug abuse
- Continuous use: here the drug is taken regularly e.g opioids , alcohol
- occasional use : The drug is taken off and on to obtain pleasure or high. E.g cocaine, amphetamine.
My cousin's story
His name is Samuel, a 24 years old Boy, an engineering student of university of Ibadan.
He was a very good Boy and came from from a rich and Christian background.
He got admitted into university of Ibadan where he met new friends and influenced him badly. He was introduced into drugs and now chronically into it.
His normal monthly allowance was 25k but within one week he is calling for money again, he started begging to make sure buys drugs to make him feel like a king.
It got to a point where he would beg, and they won't give him because they knew what he wanted to do with the money.
He begged and begged but didn't get anything, and then he went to steal where he was caught and the angry boys that caught him set him on fire.
Now Samuel is no more because he met bad friends that introduced him to drugs.
