DIMENSION OF HEALTH

It is said that health is multidimensional. This implies that to be healthy one has to be physically, socially and spiritually sound. Based on this, I will be discussing few of the several dimensions to be taken into consideration for one to stay healthy.

  1. SOCIAL HEALTH
    This refers to the ability to make and maintain good relationship with other people.
  • Learn to make friends, behave friendly and speak kind words to
    people with a smile.

  • Be generous with praises and cautious with criticism. Avoid envy, gossiping and backbiting.

  • Maintain good relationship with people. Remember, man is a social animal and we need each other for survival.

  1. MENTAL HEALTH
    This isn't a mere absence of mental illness. Good health is not the ability of an individual to respond to the varied experience of life with flexibility and a sense of purpose. It's the ability to think clear and coherently.

-TIPS FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF MENTAL HEALTH

  • Adequate sleep
  • Adequate nutrition.
  • Don't take drugs indiscriminately, avoid substance abuse which includes cigarette, alcohol and indian hemp for they are detrimental to both physical and mental health.
  • Adopt Positive reaction to the disappointment(s) in life.
  • Accept responsibility without conflict.
  • Discuss your problem with an experienced counsellor (pastor, teacher, parents), etc.
  • Good family interaction is important.
  1. PHYSICAL HEALTH
    This is probably the easiest to understand, and the most obvious dimension of health. It involves all those things that can affect your physical health directly or indirectly which has to do mostly with hygiene as follows:

° PERSONAL HYGIENE
In order to maintain wellness, personal hygiene is very important. It is self-care by which people attend such as bathing l, toileting, general body hygiene and grooming. It involves care of the body from head to toes.

° ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE
This implies cleanliness of the environment to free it from rodents, pests, flies, and mosquitoes. Environmental hygiene include good source of water, proper disposal of refuse/sewage etc. A clean, healthy environment gives one a state of wellness and make the body to be at peace with the environment. It involves cleaning from inside to outside. Ensure good water drainage by clearing and not blocking the gutter.. And proper disposal of refuse.

° FOOD HYGIENE/ EATING HABIT

  • Ensure proper washing of the hand before food preparation.
  • wash food items properly before cooking.
  • Cover food properly.
  • Wash cooking utensils properly before and after cooking.
  • Don't patronize junk(fast) food.
  • Drink enough water/ fluid daily.
  • Avoid overeating (gluttony) / obesity.
  • Take adequate food nutrients i.e aim always at eating diet that's balanced.
