Becoming A Game Developer in Africa Part 2

in #africa6 years ago

back again after that long break ....

Getting things done in my interest as a game Developer was very minimal because of the lack of motivation. I tried finding some folks who were interested in the same field as I was. At that time a student In Kabarak University 2017/18 I couldn't find no one that we could bond with on the matter let alone programming. This has nothing to do with the University but the student didn't have drive to do more with what they learned in class. My opinion:

They were not interested in the course that's why they lacked the drive

After getting me a laptop a cheap one if I may add:

Way worse than this brand new HP 630 laptop. Mine was crockedy old and worn out. Still serves the purpose

Went to the school wifi and downloaded Unity for the first time. I successfully downloaded it but failed to install compatibility issue 🤦🏾‍♂️. At the time I knew Unity as my best option of getting into game development. Forgive me for my lack of research at the time. Tried finding a way around it but couldn't gave up for sometime but still continued with pygame since I saw that was the only option I had at the time.
I remembered my friend back in highschool told me he used to make games from game maker as also it would not require a lot of coding. Game maker is a game engine that allows one to make games without coding anything but there is an option for coding. Never made a single game with Game Maker even after having it on my laptop for quite some time. I would blame my lack of interest and I just felt I didn't click with the engine. That was the excuse at the time.

I kept on with my school work and web development projects

Now that I look back into things I could have achieved what i wanted as early as that time but I just liked the self pitty and felt I land resources to make a game.

It was all in my head
Now this was all before I met Godot game engine and that's the engine I fell in love with. Not that it's any better than existing engines i think each game engine has advantage over the other depending on what one is trying to achieve and creativity of the developer. I'll just say Godot clicked for me and that's the game engine I'll focus on moving forward and it's open source(open source ) pay nothing to no one make it to your own desire and you are free to sell your modified version. In short I'm just saying once you download it is yours. Unlike Unity,Unreal ... It's one of the lightest engine about 16mb if I remember correct.

These are some of my adventures but I venture into everything I'm a research who just seeks to know. Will share more on my other fields of research and how maybe they all relate and seem to serve my purpose for the forgotten children of Africa
