Is Dictatorship The Only Way Out For Africa?
Most part of the world has agreed to accept Democracy as the best form of government. This has been proven to be true but not for Africa. In Africa, mild Dictatorship seems to work.
I know for a country like Zimbabwe, DRC Congo, and many others who have lived with the product of dictatorship for the past couple of decades will not agree with this opinion. However, let us look at some other African countries where dictatorship worked or is working well. Two countries to show justice to is Libya (North Africa) and Rwanda (East Africa). In the days of the late Muammar Gaddafi, Libya was one of the richest countries in Africa and the living standard was unbelievably positive even with a dictator. After the dictator was chased to his grave because he refused to accept democracy, Libya is currently struggling to maintain a steady and peaceful government. Thus, poverty and corruption are on the rise.
Now Rwanda?! Rwanda is widely known for its horrible genocide in the early 90's. Since then, it has been ruled by one man, Paul Kagame. But guess what? He is actually a 'mild' dictator and it is working. Currently, Rwanda has one of the fastest growing economies in the continent. The country has no minerals but good leadership is making the magic. The current president has been in power for 23 years and he seems to be the only man keeping the peace. In fact, there is a new policy that allows him to stay in power until 2034 :) Is this right? He won yesterday's election with 99%.
The west does not want this. Before yesterday's election, many videos have been out condemning what is happening there. It seems like the west wants to impose democracy. From my personal opinion, the world should re-defined leadership and possibly merge dictatorship and democracy for Africa.
What are your thoughts? Do you think democracy is best for Africa?
Neither dictatorship nor fake democracy (many people think they live in democracy but they don't).
Anarchy or minarchy is the solution not only for Africa but to the world.
Take a look at Somalia, still very poor but without government they are doing pretty well and the quality of life has been improving.
I agree with you @bitatlas
Lesotho and Swaziland are doing pretty well.
