Captains Candidates for Round 2! @dahmsy79 is here to help you get the 4 points

in #afl7 years ago

Hi Everyone,

It's almost seems a bit silly to write this given Tom Mitchell is in the biggest possession winning form the AFL has seen since Greg Williams but alas some of you may not have him in your team or be inclined to take him on!

There is a risky tactic that you could employ if you find yourself outgunned in this weeks match up.

Now if you are playing a team that got a way bigger score than you in Round 1, it may be worth rolling the dice on selecting someone else to Captain your side this week.

If you are going to lose anyway why not take the chance?

Armed with the knowledge that no doubt your opponent will name Mitchell as Captain, taking him on by putting the C on a Danger, Parker or Dusty type could see you heavily rewarded if Mitchell was to get injured or have a rare down day.

So putting the obvious choice of Mitchell to the side, here are my best 5 Alternative Captain choices (in no particular order) for this week:

P Dangerfield (Geelong)

Danger is back this week and he loves playing Hawthorn.

Who could forget his performance last time against them. Injured and on one leg, Danger could barely run so Scott sent him to the goal square to play the old fashioned full forward role.

The Hawks could do nothing as Paddy monstered them and if it wasn't for some wayward kicking he could of kicked 10.
Danger finished with 5 goals 6 and 140 Fantasy points in a game that will be replayed for years and years.

Given Danger is back to full fitness now (I hope), expect him to say hello to 2018 with another huge performance.

He will surely tempt a few to move the C off Mitchell.

J Steven (St Kilda)

Looked back to his absolute busy best last week when he cut the Lions to shreds in Round 1 and scored 133 Fantasy Points.

Steven will relish being back under the roof again at Etihad against the lowly Kangas and you can expect a big score from him.

Steven had 39 disposals and 115 Dream Team points against the Kangas last time he played them but he is arguably looking in better form this time around.

On a negative note he may attract the Ben Jacobs tag but on the back of last weeks game Jacobs will lucky to be in the side.

P Cripps (Carlton)

Cripps was immense against the reigning premiers last week and almost single handedly carried the Blues to a shock upset.

He scored 101 last time against the Gold Coast but under the roof at Etihad this week, I will be shocked if he scores anything less than a 130 again.

There is no Midfielder in that Gold Coast team that will be able to do anything to slow him down.

S Coniglio (GWS)

We all saw how much of the ball Tom Mitchell got against the Pies last week and if you look back across last season you will see the Pies are a 'nice' opponent to be up against for Fantasy Scorers.

Buckley doesn't seem to tag nor have the ability to react when an opposition Midfielder is destroying them so expect a bunch of GWS players to have their way with the Pies this week.

None will win more of the ball than Coniglio who was just a dream team score magnet last week gaining a 146 point game.

I would not be surprised if breaks 150 this week.

Dyson Heppell (Essendon)

I think Heppell is going to be back to his brilliant best this year and I brought him into my Classic team this week after his brilliant match winning performance last week.

Heppell was immense against the Crows after Merrett went down and amassed 35 disposals for 145 Fantasy Points.
No reason he can't do it again against the Dockers and last time he played them he had 35 disposals for a massive Fantasy Score of 145.

Hard to look past Mitchell this week but hopefully that gives you some food for thought.

Good luck with your match ups and be sure to check back in tomorrow for our Teams blog.
