Travel Tales: Reaching out to Meadow Of Gold
16 days and approx 3500 kms on some of the most treacherous terrains and here i was all set to cover it on an almost 20 yrs old Enfield and people I met only for few hours.
Don't miss the Introductory Post
Day 1 & 2 - Delhi to heavenly Kashmir
Day 3 - Qazikund - Sonamarg
Route start 2013-05-27 08:55:42
Route end 2013-05-27 19:40:26
Route length: 167.31 km
Top speed 69 km/h
Avg. speed 10 km/h
Leaving early morning? This never happened with us so after a much needed break at Qazikund we all got ready hoping to leave in time. It rained all night so was quite positive to get a clear day.
By the time we moved it started to rain again and we ended up wasting time in unpacking and getting into rain gears. It was almost 9 am and we had targets of reaching Kargil with a stop in Srinagar to pick gum boots.
We are now starting as 6 riders - 2 new friends from Nawansher, Punjab. They were riding on Apache and was taking similar route so planned to ride with us. Also by now we were very much adapted to rain and accepted it as destiny, didn’t hate it till we crossed Green Tunnel – that’s because we wanted to take cam out and click the beauty. With every passing km the vistas are getting greener and better.
Even though Srinagar was done well in time. We wasted lot of time getting stuck in traffic and missing turns on one way roads. A quick break at the Dal Lake for some clicks and efforts to reach Kargil however several checks made from locals and taxi drivers gave us news that Zozila is shut because of snowfall the previous night.
Our 1st proper break happened around 5 pm on the outskirts of Srinagar
My bike almost slipped twice on the way to Sonamarg and I realized it’s not the roads it’s the beauty which is taking my concentration off the roads. A place so serene that you can’t just keep moving, since Zozila Pass was closed we had time in hand to stop and appreciate the nature.
That's my ride - Warboy
!
Every rider's dream
and they changed really soon
Sonamarg has lot of stay options while we didn’t explore much since the weather was going bad again. Hotel Sun Shine was booked for night stay. Room was good with helpful staff and expensive yet decent food from in-house restaurant. Also with new properties here I’m sure people interested in Luxury stay won’t be disappointed.
Day 4 will gonna be a challenging one for we will go face to face with the deadly Zozila Pass which was shut due to heavy snowfall.
