MENSWEAR - IS JEWELRY FEMININE ?
Menswear !
I understand many men are not all that comfortable with jewelry, nevertheless, that doesn't still make Jewelry in anyway less masculine.
Let's go down memory lane a bit and look at this from a historical perspective.
Male jewelries have always existed and symbolized different things.
The ring has always represented Royalty, Authority and Power. It also served as a stamp/seal for official documents, decrees and judgments.
Egyptian Pharaoh's are known for their use of jewelries and even in the dynasty wish dates back so many centuries, dignitaries wore collars/necklaces and even their soldiers wore some form of jewelry as a marketing of honor.
Another example is the Pope's ring, which still remains a symbol of power and authority and also serves as a signature too as long as the Vatican is concerned.
Companies and organizations give watches to honor their staff at retirement, more like a memorable piece to remind them of their efforts/contribution to the organization.
We also have bracelets, Dog tags, cufflinks and other accessories that have been existing for many years now.
Even though some have evolved to become style statement pieces, many of these accessories actually have their root in history for really solid reasons. (not so vain right ?)
That doesn't rule out the sentimental reasons attached to it by people/society though.
I would talk about that subsequently too.
But about jewelries not being only feminine, i could go on and on, in the words of a style icon, who says - history has shown us already that men wearing jewelry is the picture of masculinity and in some cases “badassery”.
At the end of the day it’s all about functionality, preference, and style.
Wear it with confidence and that sentiment will translate to everyone else.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this :)
I agree big time with you. I even just got a magnetic ear stud last week and i love it
