A place I would like to visit!
No your eyes are not fooling you that is a oasis inside a volcano inside a desert with black sands around it!
This place is called Waw an Namus and it is an ethereal volcanic oasis in the middle of Sahara located in south area of Libya.
This is an indeed unique natural wonder found in the center of the Sahara Desert. The whole area is a volcanic field, that extends 10–20 km (6,2–12,4 mi), making it visible from space (picture below).
In the middle of it there is a caldera and a cone. Moreover there are three saline lakes, that create a lush oasis
For centuries it has been an important stop for the caravans, that would refill their water supplies. Today it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country. Visitors are mesmerized by the beauty of Waw an Namus: the caldera is about 100 m (330 ft) deep and features colorful lakes, reeds and of course date palms, that enhance the overall impression.
But the problem is that it is really hard to get here. And it doesn't help that a lot of damage has been done by careless tourists. But with it's black sand dunes and salt lakes this site is worth the all the struggle as it is indeed a unique sight to see.
This is the place I would really like to visit in my lifetime and I hope one day I will but until that day arrives I got nothing but there beautiful photos to look at:
