Float fishing for chrome Coho Salmon. First light, First cast!

in #adventure6 years ago (edited)

Late October Early Morning Chasing Silvers!

I still remember that one early morning where I landed my first Coho Salmon in the Vedder River of Beautiful British Columbia.

Started my day hiking alongside the river bank to what looked like a good pool for fish to be holding in before making their way upriver. I then decided to warm myself up by making myself a fire, having my hot coffee while waiting for the sun to rise.

The sun was just about to peak out of the mountains so I took the opportunity to prepare my tackle and bait. Finally, it was go time! I quietly waded knee deep into the river making sure not to spook any fish that were close to the shore.

I was rocking a centerpin setup with cured roe under my float. My first cast drifted right behind an impression of what looked like a boulder about 15 feet from shore. My float disappeared! Fish On!

Note: Only Hatchery marked salmon with an Adipose fin clipped while juveniles are allowed for retention. This fish was a wild fish that’s why It was kept safely in the water and was also quickly released!
