My First Bike Tour: Too Many Daiquiris... at the #1 Beach in the USA! (3/5)
Day 2: Siesta Key, FL (11 Miles Walking)
It would have been amazing to hop on the bikes on Day 2 but our backsides were not having it. Instead, we put our sandals on and walked as far as our legs would allow us.
Buenos Dias (Good Morning) 😉
Thank the hotel gods for continental breakfast! There's something special about waking up to a very simple breakfast, surrounded by disappointed travelers watching Fox News, that gets your blood going in the morning.
This breakfast even had a pancake conveyor belt:
The food was good, and filling to boot. We were off to the beach!
Ryan (@bananaskin) and I walked one mile from the hotel to the first beach entrance we could find.
This particular entrance had a sign saying that compact cars were recommended... And, for good reason.
It was a one way that forced cars two ways with a U-Turn inside a handicapped parking space... (props to those in the minivans and SUVs)
It was early enough that the umbrella and lounge chair guys hadn't had a chance to set up in the prime beach real estate.
The water was so impressively clear! We were literally in paradise...
As the late morning arrived, we started to get hungry again (emphasis on "again"). We decided that we would be the right amount of hungry (just pretend that makes sense) if we started walking to a restaurant called The Old Salty Dog.
Four miles later we arrived!
The Old Salty Dog
Ok, this place was awesome! Both Ryan and I ordered the "Fully Loaded Salty Dog". Just to give you an idea of how awesome this truly was, the "Fully Loaded Salty Dog" is a fried hotdog topped with sauerkraut, bacon, grilled onions and mushrooms, and American, cheddar, pepperjack and Swiss cheeses.

Needless to say, we walked out of that place at a waddling pace. That just so happened to be the perfect speed to make room for a few drinks on our walk to the Daiquiri Deck!
Dangers of the Daiquiri Deck
The Daiquiri Deck is basically a suped-up, alcoholic, version of a Slurpee machine with a bartender.
These little icees were really tasty, but very alcoholic!
Three was the magic number for me... Between the hotdog and three daiquiris, I was finally full! No more anything was going in my belly for at least another five minutes, which was good because that gave us time to have one of the best naps ever (right on the white sandy beach).
There's nothing quite like waking up after a solid nap on a cool breezy beach.
Sunset On The #1 Beach In The United States of America
We've all seen those amazing sunset pictures on Instagram that look like National Geographic level work. This beach produced a National Geographic sunset...
This might be my favorite photo of 2017
With nine miles of walking completed for the day, it was time to walk another mile back to the hotel for a quick shower before heading out for more food.
Dinner Time (Yup, eating again)!
It was time for pizza on this trip! After a quick 1/2 mile walk to Solorzanos Late Night Pizzeria, we ordered ourselves a whole pizza with half pepperoni and half cheese.
I don't know how we got so hungry again, but that pizza disappeared in less than five minutes...
Munchies 420 Cafe "Again"
In one last effort to continue the food eating and drink drinking binge, we made our way across the street to Munchies 420 Cafe for one last hurrah!
They had an open mic night that turned out to be some good listening for us! There were definitely a couple of partiers that were going a little overboard, but they were sure fun to watch.
Afterwards, it was time for a lot of water and bed.
The Story Continues
That was Day 2! Day 3 is filled with much more riding, a little beach time, and camping. Be sure to stay tuned to learn about how we were given the gift of fire by Redneck Jesus!
Thanks for reading! Keep Adventuring!
Happy New Year!!
