Fables and fairytales can have such different meaning and represent such different things culturally. Most fables started out long ago as very harsh and graphic ways to scare children into learning lessons about life. Over the years, those stories have been extremely lightened up and are now presented as fun and cute. I can imagine the messages that might still be passed on in various parts of the world.
