The nefarious consequences of smoking marijuana during adolescence

An investigation followed 6,000 individuals from the time they were 15 until their 30th birthday, and was able to find the dire consequences of cannabis use at puberty.

Scientists from the University of Oulu, Finland, have concluded that smoking marijuana during adolescence increases the risk of becoming psychotic during the following years. The results of this research were published in The British Journal of Psychiatry.

The experts determined that those adolescents who smoked cannabis at least 5 times already have a higher risk of suffering from psychic health disorders in their adulthood.

To obtain these results, the group of scientists analyzed 6,000 people, from when they were 15 until they reached the age of 30, observing their habits, the development of dependencies and psychic condition.

The same effects of smoking

The same team conducted another investigation and also established that smoking leads young people to a higher risk of suffering from psychic problems compared to those who do not smoke. According to the study, the risk is higher when this addiction develops in children under 13 years of age.
