It is a sphinx moth. There are many species of these huge moths and I think this is Modest (Pachysphyinx modesta). Good for you that saw one. I am lucky if I see one sphinx moth per year. Great capture of those amazing wings. Thanks for using #insectpub and #butterflyday tag @nutman. : )
Ah thanks for the ID I had no clue. I was visiting friends and this moth was just chilling in the house we were staying at. Hard not to miss! I hope you get to see one soon and thanks for the kind words :)
