My Actifit Report Card: November 17 2018 - Engaging In Community Health Service
We sponsored a community health programme that took place today in a rural community in Lagos and the result was really outstanding. A lot of people were walking on the brink of life and death but were not aware.
How It All Started
We have been hearing stories of people walking on the road and just slump and die, while others will be in a bus and put their head on the seat rest only for the conductor to notice at the last bus stop that the person is dead, we also have cases of people driving their car and dying in traffic. All this boil down to high blood pressure. People are under a lot of pressure these days and they’re not taking time to go to the hospital to check their health status. Some people want to check their health status but they fear the cost of health care will put them in more debt. A women community group approached some of us to help finance the programme so that they could offer free test and medication for BP, blood sugar level and malaria test and treatment. They aslo wanted us to be present so that we can also offer moral support to them.
It Turned Out To Be Big Work
When I left home early in the morning, I thought it was going to be a work through the, we just sit and maybe after sometime we go home. But on getting there we discovered they had not set the canopy where the medical staff and those who came for the programme will stay, we had to join them in doing that, the medical staffs came and the testing and treatment stated, With all the stress I went through that morning I thought my BP was going to be high but it turned out to be A ok. We helped moderate how people were attended to so that there won’t be crisis. When something is labeled FREE it does attract the attention of many people.
The Outcome Was Great
Everything went very well, more than 200 people were attended to and they included women, children and men. It was fun too, loads of jokes were told and this made a lot of people happy. We say people that were afraid of the needle piercing into their thumb to test for malaria and blood sugar levels. We had people in a panic situation because they were apprehensive of their BP levels and we had people who were just inquisitive to know their health status. We had more than 5 causes of people who had very high BP but didn’t know it. Am happy they know now, the good part is that they were referred to hospitals for further treatment and management. All the test and the drugs were offered free and this brought great joy to their faces. They had never seen such done before, in fact some were very apprehensive of coming out for checkup, it was the people that came first and got all done for them free that went back and started telling others and before you know it, the whole place was filled up. I was happy to be involved in the whole event, I am also very happy to have contributed my part in making a difference in the life of others. Life is not always about us, it is also about impacting the lives of others positively.

Your are a good community leader. BP is called as " silent killer" So you don't allow it to kill more people.
Yes it is true, BP is a silent killer. Thanks for your comment.

Fun fact : Lagos means rabbit in Greek.
Respect for your action.
Lol, Lagos actually got its' name from the early Portuguese visitors that came during the missionary/slave trading era in West Africa. You can read more about Lagos at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Lagos
