I wasn’t expecting myself to jump in so soon tbh. I just woke up that morning in the mood for a PC game. I have these moments, although it’s rarer now with kids. My game tastes steer more to city building, god mode stuff, like Tropico where I get to be a dictator, or Pharaoh where I get to build beautiful cities and watch them grow. But an action RPG was top of my list for a game experience, I just wanted to remind myself why it was so addictive but also for little details that might enrich my story. I wanted to relate to the characters I am trying to write. :)

I remember a reader on another site once complained to me about the lack of loot and an inventory in my story world. It got me all defensive as I tried to explain to him that my character has transported from a game world to another dimension, and in this new reality, he could not simply pick up all this loot and stuff them in some magical inventory from nowhere. I still won’t write in a stash or inventory, but at least, I can be a bit more sensitive and understand his dissatisfaction! Dammit, I need another page of slots for all the junk I pick up.

I woke up and was compelled to log in and play for an hour, so obviously it’s got its hooks into me. Despite all the whining, I know that it’ll be because there is a big learning curve that will keep me interested in the long run. I’m treating it as a side project that is actually a lot of fun.
