Oh, yes!! It makes perfect sense. How do you spell AWKWARD? It's cultural, but, yikes.
Like a fly on the wall.

You’ve said a few times that you’ve lived in various places around the world. Where have you lived and what did you do there?
I have lived in Korea, Germany, France, Belgium. Poland, Prague, Italy, Spain, and several places for only 3-6 months.
Working for the government.
How about you?
Wow! That’s a good list. I’ve traveled to France, India, Vietnam, Korea, and the Bahamas, but I’ve only ever lived in Japan and the US. When I first came to Japan, I thought I would move on to other countries, but I never did.
That is when you can tell you have truly found a home.
I have a lot of friends (well four) that taught English for years and years in Japan but, were moved by the State Department after the volcano erupted.
It was a swift move on their part and all of them felt like they were being ripped away from their home.
I can imagine. That’s too bad. The natural disasters over here pose a big risk to anybody employed by overseas companies or state departments. I was in Sendai during the 2011 earthquake, but I was employed by a Japanese company, so they told me not to go anywhere. I had to break company policy to leave the city and prefecture.
Oh, those are some really sweet spots! I have lived in 23 (Washington, DC) is my #24 different locations. I do not count the places that were less than three months. But! I can tell you that I really love different cultures, my children are comfortable traveling anywhere and I believe we have enriched out lives in so many ways.
I am thinking Vietnam, Myanmar or Tibet for next year, still in the air. I really want to photograph the floating markets in Vietnam. So much of the culture is getting Westernized, unfortunately, and fortunately, I guess you could say, but the rural areas remain much the same as they were. I am rambling now...
I really enjoyed Vietnam. I was there eight years ago, so I’m sure it has changed quite a bit, but I would love to go back. The food was great. The countryside was beautiful. And there was this anything goes sort of feel to it that I really liked.
