My Actifit Report Card: March 26 2020

Planned a quiet day at home. I had set out to write up an investing post from the week before. The nature of the selloff has done my head in and I cannot really face seeing how bad the numbers are. I am for sure not doing any trades other than letting the flow of covered calls I set up execute (if they want to).

Was a good thing I was at home as the kitchen installer arrived to install the missing cupboard. No warning - no announcement. Just arrive. Apparently they had done the same the day before when I was out riding - the builder pitched up a little later. Step one was to check where the cupboard should be aligned - picture one shows the alignment my wife wanted - aligned with the counter top below. I check with her by SMS - yes that is right.

Then I notice that this leaves an air brick partly exposed on the other side. So I sent these photos to my wife by text and get a new ruling to hide that air brick. She loves symmetry and now the gap on either side of the cupboard is aligned. I love this use of technology

This brings the list of tasks left for the new kitchen down to two - fix the range hood the builder damaged and put in glass splashbacks - he is not going to be doing that. Just as well as we are at war with him.

Spent a little time in the afternoon tidying up the garden. We have huge trees next door and I am forever picking up branches. It is easy to do 5,000 steps a day chasing that. I also set in train cooking a beef roast for dinner as my son came over to visit. I use a sous vide to get perfect cook through. Process steps

  1. Sear the beef - 2 mintues a side
  2. Make a butter sauce with rosemary and mixed herbs
  3. Seal in a vacuum bag with the sauce and sous vide at 140F for 3 hours.
  4. Sear again before serving
  5. Plenty of time to make all the side dishes in those 3 hours.

End result was good - porterhouse roast plus roesti plus veges. The nice part is I was able to cook all the extras on the stove in the kitchen with 4 burners going at a time. I have been cooking outside on one burner plus the barbecue during the building work

My son stayed over as he is working from home and did not need to rush back overnight - safer to avoid interacting with train passengers or Uber drivers. I drove him home.
