Tree Tuesday

When they began tearing down the house across the street from me, they did so slowly and carefully.

They began with the storage building, which was detached from the main house, and then they worked their way across the property from one side of the house to the other, all the while leaving the garden, with its beautiful trees and interesting sculptures, untouched. This left me a little hopeful that they might uproot and sell the trees rather than just cut them down and throw them out. There was one beautifully twisted pine tree, in particular, that I hoped they would save.

On Saturday, though, as I was preparing dinner, I happened to look outside right at the moment the saw blade passed through the trunk. Just then, the whole thing shook, trembled, and fell down out of sight.

It was a strangely personal and dramatic moment. I really liked that tree, and wanted something better for it.

Dogs and demons, man. Dogs and demons (I'm sure you know the infamous book I'm referring to)

At least you got a good photo out of it. So there's that :)

Actually, I had never heard of that book before. I looked it up though. Sounds like an interesting read.

Definitely is. Written by a guy who grew up in Japan and loves it very dearly, but is distressed at some trends he sees. One such trend is similar to what you post about, which is what reminded me of the book.

I might look into getting the audio book for that and listening to it in the car. It’s be nice to be able to connect the dots over here a little more.

What a shame. It takes a long time for a tree to develop character like that.

It definitely does. I kept thinking, if only I had the space for it, I’d love to have it.

Nothing stays forever, especially trees are just thought useless. It’s a shame!

Yeah, it’s unfortunate to see things that take so long to grow just thrown away. It’s like you say, though, nothing lasts forever.

I wonder if someone had started it as a small bonsai. I recently bought a pine to start training as a bonsai. So sad really to see nice trees fall. I suppose when they get that big they would be almost impossible to move cheaply. You got a MonochromeMonday and a TreeTuesday all in one post!!!

I don’t know. It was a garden tree, about five tall, but it was very well manicured, and somebody, at some point had built supports for it to lean on (which isn’t uncommon here). I would think that somebody would’ve wanted to buy it. I don’t really know, though.

Based on the way they didn’t damage the garden at all while tearing down the house, I got the thought In my head that the reason was they wanted to spare all the great trees that were growing there. That was a big misinterpretation;-/

Aawwwwww... 😥 I wish more thought and effort was put into saving trees... Something that took tens of years to become what it is today should not to eliminated so cruelly in just minutes... 😔

I guess it’s one of those lessons. Not everybody finds the same things special that I think of as special, and vice versa. The flip side is the important side to remember.

How true... Thank you
