It's a sign of winter dreariness that I'm actually looking forward to yard work. It's time to trim out all the brown and dead and make run for new and green. About that genie - you're right, you'd never know the sweet feeling of accomplishment from your own efforts if someone granted your every wish. However, that being said, I wouldn't mind the old fashioned 3 - wish genie. Then he can go back to his bottle and I'll struggle through the rest of my life as a whale.
Hahah I love how you put that! 3 wishes could put any of us on an upward trajectory, then we would have to manage it and take responsibility for our actions after that.
There was an episode of the original Twilight Zone in which a small time thief ends up dead. Then he was able to have everything he wanted and everything always turned out good for him. At first he loved it. But then he was getting bored because he always knew what was going to happen in advance. So he talked to the person in charge and asked to be sent to the other place because he didn't like it there in heaven. The guy said, what makes you think you're in heaven? So yeah, when everything goes your way and you know it's going to, that's actually a kind of hell.
I actually think that's part of the problem when you hear about so many rich and famous people doing such atrocious things - for instance, Bill Cosby and Michael Jackson. When a person has everything at their fingertips, they search farther and farther off the "normal" and get into outrageous things because there is nothing challenging in their life. And then when they have money and power, they feel like they can get away with it. I'll think I'll just keep working along and enjoying what I have, though I might aspire to more - you gotta have dreams right?
Yep, its the journey, not the destination. Gotta have realistic achievable goals and then life is satisfying as you meet some of them. btw I edited my reply above, after finding the Twilight Zone episode I remembered online. I misremembered a bit :D
lol, I never would have known. That does sound like Twilight Zone. I misremember all the time!
