One indicator of the progress of Aceh Province can be seen from the development of the tourism sector. Promotion by the Government of Aceh through the Department of Culture and Tourism at home and abroad can be impressed by the positive trend of tourist visits to Aceh and the development of the hospitality industry in Aceh.

Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS, 2016), the development of the number of supporting facilities in the tourism sector in the form of accommodation facilities such as hotels and inns is positive. The number of hotels one to four increased to 20 units, which in 2014 amounted to 16 units. Half of the hotels are located in the city of Banda Aceh. The number of accommodation places other than star hotels in Aceh amounted to 353 pieces.

BPS measures the occupancy rate (TPK) as an indicator in viewing the number of tourist arrivals to Aceh. The average room occupancy rate during 2015 in star hotels and other occupancy in Aceh shows an increase from 2012 to 2015. In 2012, the hotel occupancy rate was at 43.21 percent, in 2013 at 45.27 percent , by 2014 by 47.74 percent, the occupancy rate of star-rated hotels in Aceh by 2015 reaches the highest percentage of 50.49 percent.

Room occupancy rate at other accommodation places in the year 2015 amounted to 33.05 percent, in 2012 by 29.15 percent, in 2013 29.53 percent and in 2014 by 30, 59 percent. Occupancy at star-rated hotels and other accommodation places has shown a positive trend in the last four years.

By 2015, the total number of foreign tourists visiting Aceh amounts to 28,375 people. About 77 percent are tourists from the ASEAN region. The number of foreign tourists visiting Aceh in 2015 has increased by 9 percent from the achievements in 2014, amounting to 26,117 foreign tourists.

Although there is no specific statistical data about the development of souvenir shops that sell a variety of typical products of Aceh to foreign tourists, but if noted, there is an increasing number of shops selling souvenirs typical Aceh in the area Peunayong. In the area there is Hotel Medan and Hotel Prapat which is a place of lodging for tourists who visit Banda Aceh.

Another thing to be noticed is the development of tour and travel business with the increasing number of travel agencies and the number of consumers accessing their services from home and abroad.

Trend Positif Pariwisata di Aceh

Salah satu indikator kemajuan Provinsi Aceh dapat dilihat dari perkembangan sektor pariwisata. Promosi gencar yang dilakukan Pemerintah Aceh melalui Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata di dalam dan luar negeri dapat dikesan melalui trend positif kunjungan wisatawan ke Aceh dan berkembangnya industri perhotelan yang ada di Aceh.

Berdasarkan data Biro Pusat Statistik (BPS, 2016), perkembangan jumlah sarana pendukung dalam sektor pariwisata berupa fasilistas akomodasi seperti hotel dan penginapan bergerak positif. Jumlah hotel berbintang satu hingga empat bertambah menjadi 20 unit, dimana di tahun 2014 berjumlah 16 unit. Separuh dari jumlah hotel tersebut berada di kota Banda Aceh. Jumlah tempat akomodasi lain selain hotel berbintang di Aceh berjumlah 353 buah.

BPS mengukur tingkat penghunian kamar (TPK) sebagai indikator dalam melihat jumlah kunjungan wisatawan ke Aceh. Rata-rata tingkat penghunian kamar sepanjang tahun 2015 pada hotel berbintang dan hunian lainnya di Aceh menunjukkan peningkatan sejak tahun 2012 hingga tahun 2015. Di tahun 2012, tingkat penghunian kamar di hotel berada pada angka 43,21 persen, tahun 2013 sebesar 45,27 persen, tahun 2014 sebesar 47,74 persen, tingkat hunian kamar pada hotel berbintang di Aceh pada tahun 2015 mencapai persentase tertinggi sebesar 50,49 persen.

Tingkat penghunian kamar pada tempat akomodasi lainnya di tahun 2015 sebesar 33,05 persen, di tahun 2012 sebesar 29,15 persen, tahun 2013 29,53 persen dan tahun 2014 sebesar 30, 59 persen. Hunian di hotel berbintang dan tempat akomodasi lainnya menunjukkan trend positif dalam empat tahun terkahir.

Pada tahun 2015, total wisatawan asing yang berkunjung ke Aceh berjumlah 28.375 orang. Sekitar 77 persen merupakan turis dari kawasan regional ASEAN. Jumlah wisatawan mancanegara yang berkunjung ke Aceh di tahun 2015 mengalami peningkatan sebesar 9 persen dari capaian tahun 2014 yang berjumlah 26.117 wisatawan mancanegara.

Meski belum ada data statistik khusus mengenai perkembangan toko cinderamata yang menjual berbagai produk khas Aceh kepada wisatawan asing, namun jika diperhatikan, terjadi jumlah peningkatan toko-toko yang menjual barangan cinderamata khas Aceh yang berada di kawasan Peunayong. Di kawasan tersebut terdapat Hotel Medan dan Hotel Prapat yang menjadi tempat penginapan bagi wisatawan yang berkunjung ke Banda Aceh.

Hal lain yang patut diperhatikan adalah perkembangan bisnis tour dan travel dengan bertambahnya jumlah travel agency dan jumlah konsumen pengakses layanannya dari dalam dan luar negeri.
