BANDA ACEH - The Aceh People's Voice Organization (SURA) strongly rejected the Indonesian government's plan to take over the management of Aceh's wakaf land in Saudi Arabia. The plan is judged to be contrary to the purpose and basic intentions of endowments from Habib Bugak, as Acehnese who represent the land for the benefit of the people of Aceh who are in Saudi Arabia in order to perform the Hajj.
This was conveyed by Spokesman of the Central Board of the Aceh People's Voice (DPP SURA), Murdani Abdullah, Saturday, March 10, 2018.
"After the plan, we from SURA immediately held an internal meeting and coordination with a number of Acehnese charismatic scholars. As a result, we expressly reject the plan of the Indonesian government through the Haj Administration Management Agency (BPKH), "said Murdani.

SURA said the Indonesian government should know that the wakaf land is not owned by the Aceh Government, but belongs to Habib Bugak. Previously reported, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, received members of the Haj Administration Management Agency (BPKH) Anggito Abimanyu, and the Special Envoy of the President for the Middle East and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (Alwi Shihab) at the Vice Presidential Palace. Anggito said that in the near future BPKH will make a visit to Saudi Arabia to meet with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and several investors. This meeting is to discuss opportunities for investment cooperation and fund placement. One of the investment plans is to build a hotel on the land owned by the Government of Aceh wakaf in Mecca.
