I really like getting a look at daily life in Aceh through the lenses of the Aceh community.
Apologies for the colonialism, we Dutch have mended our ways since then 8-).
Sometimes, we have to be honest, when the Dutch colonize our territory, our parents can feel traveling by train, but our children today can only feel the toy train. 😕
One of my great-great-uncles fought in Aceh, but he didn't want to, so he deserted from the KNIL and married a local girl. That is the only connection my family has with Aceh. I hope time will heal all wounds.
Our generation only feels the pain of colonial wounds in the history story. The wounds of the past have been covered by an even bigger wound in the independence era.
