Marriage in Aceh is called "meukawen" or "meunikah" (kabul). Before conducting a marriage, there are several conditions that must be passed like keumalon, Shah road, meulake, and set a wedding day by a seulangke (intermediary). To get to the marriage level in the Acehnese society must be taken very varied steps, and this is very dependent on each region. Generally in Aceh when the road leg must be done seulangke able to convince the family of the prospective bride to accept a man's proposal. If a seulangke is incapable of persuading the family of the prospective virgin he coached, it may not be accepted. After the application is accepted, then the next determination of dowry (dowry) and the determination of the day to bring sign (meutunangan) will soon be done. Meutunangan is the official sign of the bond between two candidates dara baroe and lintoe baroe (bride).

This term in Aceh adat is called the kong haba rupture (sirih as the amplifier of speech). The kong haba consists of betel nut, betel nut, cooked eggs, banana talon wrapped in cerana (package) to be offered to the families of the prospective virgin baroe. In addition, also brought mas 1 or 2 mayam objects with customary provisions, if the bond is broken because of the man then the sign of the mas is considered lost or burned. But if the bond is broken due to the women who decide it, then the sign must be returned double or double the amount of gold given at the time of the proposal.
