In March 1942, the Japanese imperial army conquered Hindia dutch. In August 1945, just days after Japan surrendered to the allied forces, the Republic of Indonesia proclaimed its independence. Soon however, both the english and the dutch return to the region. The Dutch conquered the Weh island again, but did not enter the land of Aceh.
