Gunung Lauser National Park.
The Gunung Leuser National Park was originally created as a wildlife reserve in 1934 and after many changes to its borders, was established as a national park in 1980. Together with the Bukit Barisan Seletan and Kerinci Seblat National Parks the GLNP forms the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra (TRHS).
Located in the Bukit Barisan Mountains the landscape of the GLNP is predominantly montane forest surrounded by lowland tropical forest.
Despite being a conservation area, the Leuser Ecosystem is not protected as it consists almost entirely of government forest land, one third of which can be legally logged or cleared for agricultural use.
Deforestation has been so relentless that even recent population surveys are soon outdated. More studies are required. According to UNESCO the Leuser Ecosystem is the largest and most significant forest remnant remaining in Sumatra.
hopefully the government together with the world NGOs are more serious in protecting and preserving TNGL .. !! Thanks
