Plant Invasion on my doorstep.
This week my family has been commenting on how many Acacia trees there are all of a sudden. These trees are normally found in the bush veld areas as they are a favorite food source for the Giraffes. If you have been to a game park this would be a common tree dominating the landscape.
I think they have appeared after they were introduced into the eco estate down the road. This estate introduced them so the Giraffes could have a ready food source. This estate was known internationally as one of it's Giraffes was removed by the Government and was killed going under a bridge.

A permit wasn't granted for the estate to have Giraffes , but they went ahead anyway. reason being the area doesn't have a natural food source for them. It does now though as the plant has spread and in 3 years it has taken over. I even have two of them growing in my garden.
All it tells me is plants are restricted to certain areas for a reason as what is this area going to look like in a few more years. I don't mind as I actually like these trees and they grow very fast. They have long thorns on them ,but will be fine once they grow up as they won't be a hazard to my dogs then. They just have to dodge them for a few years until they are out of reach.

My grandmother was telling me these trees look like that because giraffes are eating the leaves. Have never believed her 🙂
Howdy sir cryptoandcoffee! Very interesting about that tough tree but since it's not a native one I hope it doesn't take over everything down the road and mess up the eco system.
