Do you think the state abortion bans passed in the wake of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization are working as intended?

For context, this is a question I answered on Quora

No, the national abortion rate has in fact increased since the Dobbs decision allowed state trigger laws to become enforceable with people in ban states getting the procedure and abortifacients from non-ban states that allow doctors to prescribe drugs like Mifeprex and Cytotec through telemedicine which they can have sent through the mail.

There were about 84,000 abortions per month, across the U.S. in the two months prior to the Dobbs ruling in June 2022 (So April and May 2022). This increased to 99,000 per month in the first three months of 2024, so the state bans actually lead to 15,000 increase in abortions per month across the country.

Missouri was the first ban state to overturn their ban in November. Even though the state voted 59 to 40 for Trump they voted 52 to 48 to overturn the state abortion ban through state constitutional amendment 3. The number of ban states will likely continue to shrink over time making such bans even less effective. Florida voted 57 to 43 to overturn their abortion ban which only failed because it did not reach the requisite 60% approval of voters to become an amendment. It is only a matter of time before they reach 60%.
