Your story begins on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. You are 3 years old, you have 2 sisters; Gladys who is 5, and Migdalia who is just 12 months old. Mangoes and avocados grow in your backyard. You and Gladys help pick the coffee beans that the adults overlook. Your grandfather owns a bar, and a pig farm. Life as you know it is wonderful.
Dinner time often includes extended family. With fresh fish always on the menu, and music always playing, dancing is just another part of your day.
Just like any other day, you follow along as your mother takes the 3 of you to see your grandmother. Only this time, she will be babysitting you all while she goes to the store. But, you will never see her again. Without knowing it just yet - her back to you as she walks away, is etched into your mind, and carved into your heart - forever.
