Abandoned Soviet Army Base
The old headquarters of the Soviet army at Bernau bei Berlin.
After the end of the DDR all the Soviet troops left Germany to go back to Russia. They took all of their equipment but the buildings are still there, and abandoned.
This abandoned place was also a former administration building for the Nazis’ Heeresbekleidungsamt, or uniform making/repairing/cleaning facility.
I take a tour of this abandoned complex, as I brave the ghosts of Soviet and German History.
The inside of this huge building has became a canvas for some amazing art work by some super talented artists. There are also a few adolescent 'cock and balls' drawn about the place, which kind of reminded me about my school days.
That's interesting as it is difficult to imagine so much art in an army base camp. I actually like this thing about soldiers that they really have unrestricted fun everywhere, no matter they are at war or something else. They surely know how to cool off their heads, when the destructive energy goes beyond a limit 😀
Hey, @off-the-rails.
This was a pretty fascinating trip through an abandoned building, given that it hasn't been used other than for a canvas for various artists. Which, you're art, a lot of the art is pretty amazing, especially some of the black and white art.
That hole in the wall with the boots at the end was kind of eerie. :)
Any idea after it had been used by both the Nazis and the Soviets why it wasn't kept up and at least used for something? i would think it would have some kind of value—location, size—something.
I guess maybe people just want to move on and put the not-so-happy past behind them. Or, maybe there just wasn't any interest or other uses for it outside of a military base. Amazing how that happens.
I don't read German, but I'm guessing the sign at the beginning of the video is a warning of some kind?
Anyway, the video was very good, like a walk of discovery. Congratulations on the curie trail upvotes. Well deserved. :)
Nice one Glen, thank you for your comment, and I'm happy you found my video interesting!
There are quite a few abandoned buildings around Berlin that could be better used, instead of just sitting idle. But everything comes down to money. Most probably the building is listed, and therefore an investor will have his hands tied up with some 'jobsworth' from the local Council.
Usually in this case, the land owner will just leave the building to fall to bits. I'm not sure if the land here is privately owned, or state owned.
and yeah, the sigh at the beginning said "Forbidden" if my memory serves me right.
My German friends would say "If its forbidden, its fun"
Great video.
Abandoned buildings make me feel very sad, always.
It's a pity that such a big building was not put to better use, or no use at all was found for it after the military left.
Well, I did enjoy your video and the most of the wall art. Just wish the building would be kept much better. At this rate, i'm not sure it will be around for long. Love the stair rails with holes in them, and the I am God skull.
Nice one fredkese, the art work really blow my mine. Such talent.
The "I am God" Alien made me laugh also :)

Such a place with so many history you have there. and i wonder what they want to use the place for. But for now, let me just say, you did great by letting people like me know that we have such a great base like this in Berlin. I loved both your write up and the video in there. They were really worth every second i spent on it. Good work and keep the search spirit up always
Thank you ferrate, I really appreciate your comment, and am happy you enjoyed my video!

The twists and turns of life. in the past it was a military base where atrocities were committed. but destiny wanted that nowadays it was a museum full of art. Thank you for telling us the history of that place. The world is full of interesting places that some of us can only see from videos like these.
Thanks wisejg, and I agree completely with you.
I'm so happy to be able to share this wonderful artwork with everybody!
That is a huge abandoned building and when you are walking up the stairs it was a bit eerie as well. I am surprised it is empty a so much could be done with this still and is such a waste. The artists have done some good work and made use of a blank canvas. Any idea what the plans are for this building. Surely they can't just leave it empty.
It was quite scary to wander around this place, especially on my own.
The artwork was something else, and I enjoyed to explore room to room as I didn't want to miss a thing!
I hope the building is brought back to life again, but unfortunately money will dictate its future.
Thank you for commenting on my video.
