AAA review: Maurice (1987), A British Romantic Gay-Love Movie
I have to admit that I was originally attracted by the actors' handsome appearances and homosexuality. I never thought that it would bring me so many touches, so that I watch it over and over again. The film is adapted from Edward Morgan Foster's novel of the same name. In 1908, two Cambridge students from aristocratic families met by chance and cherished each other to create feelings. One day, Clive finally got the courage to say to Maurice that he loved him. Maurice was shocked. On the night, Maurice sneaked into Clive's room, kissed Clive and whispered "I love you" and gently left. Two people are immersed in love. However, Clive, who has a good political prospect, has made a choice between the political future and the feelings of Maurice from the beginning. Finally, he chose his career.

After graduating, Maurice and Clive maintained a good friend relationship. Maurice loved Cliff in a deep love, never changed, but Clive married the rich lady for political future. Maurice, who was desperate, met Clive's servant at Clive's house. Late at night, the servant climbed into the room of Maurice and stayed with him. Maurice finally found love again. I don't doubt Clive loves Maurice, but I still feel that he is selfish and hypocritical. The way he is attached to love is so-called Platonic love, but I don't think so. His love is just an illusion of spiritual love. When this illusion is shattered in real life, he is also willing to blend in with this irrational society. He wants to get love, so he went to pursue Maurice. However, he did not dare to bear the consequences of this love, so he refused to have a skin kiss with Maurice.

The whole story is quite mature. Maurice met with Scudder and fell in love, when he was abandoned and became crazy. He finally fell through the hierarchy and was very brave to chase his love. If it is not such a perfect ending, then the memories of the love between Maurice and Clive become extremely painful. Whether it is the original novel or the movie, the ancient style of the British style is vividly reflected. The scenery of Cambridge or the beautiful scenery of the countryside bring a lot to the story.
