The Philosophies of Production

Philosophies-of-Production

Production is simply the means and method a company chooses to bring their products to the market, but the variety of different means and methods has created much debate as to what aspects of production should and shouldn’t be focused on. A great modern example is the movement towards more sustainable means of production, which has led many companies to create new innovative ways to reduce the environmental impact of their processes.

Although sustainability isn’t the only field of interest, some companies today are changing their hierarchy, others still are letting emotions and feelings drive them, rather than profit forecasts. Let’s consider some of these companies and their new philosophies.

Byredo

A perfume company started by an artist, Byredo is much more than your typical branded scent. Ben Gorham’s ambition was to translate feelings and experiences into the world of products, and through this he has created an almost limitless brand which is driven by emotion, something seemingly impossible in our modern money-hungry society.

As an outsider to the fragrance industry he initially sought professional help, and this has come to identify him as somewhat of an anomaly, with his background steeped in art and fashion having huge influence over his design process.

Well-known for all the right reasons, Gypsy Water has become a timeless classic from Byredo. The perfume itself is a celebration of Romani Gypsy lifestyle and thus has all the smells of an almost fantasy campground, its ability to almost transport you back to that time is it’s best feature.

Golden Goose

An almost ironic name for a luxury fashion company, Golden Goose have tapped into an innate aspect of human nature, which is the feeling of nostalgia or “old school cool” in their sneakers and clothes. Founders Francesca Rinaldo and Alessandro Gallo have found a way to incorporate their passion for travel, research, art, and culture into their production. Including of course the traditional Italian means of production through sartorial methods.

Hand-crafted by their team of “Sneaker Makers”, their shoes are given their unique character through the addition and subtraction of materials, with hand-painted emblems and scratches that remind us all of our younger years.

The Golden Goose kids collection is perhaps the most exciting collection for any parents who miss the clothes of their youth, not only are there aspects of that youth in their design, but that also combined with modern elements has created something truly spectacular.

Agua Bendita

A line of swimwear that is not only handmade but also gorgeous may sound either too good to be true or too expensive to be bought. Agua by Agua Bendita marks an incredible turning point in the way that a company considers its staff, in that they work on an egalitarian model.

Caring for their staff means that not only is the community better off for the existence of their company, but also their staff are more productive and creative when it comes to doing their job. If every company worldwide ran like this then many of the problems that we face today may not exist, I believe Mariana Hinestroza and Catalina Álvarez (founders) are paving the way for a better approach to staff hierachy.
