  1. Microsoft's new Surface Pro 7 2-in-1 laptop is up for preorder — here are my first impressions of the device - According to the article, the device is available for preorder at a cost of $749. It weighs 1.7 pounds, comes with Core i3, Core i5, or Core i7 CPUs and 4, 8, or 16GB of RAM. It can also be purchased with storage from 128GB through 1 TB. The reviewer noted that Windows 10 looked great, with crisp and bright colors. The reviewer also reported ease of use for scrolling, zooming, and extending or collapsing the kickstand. It also distinguishes itself from previous models with the addition of a USB-C port. Microsoft also reports better battery life in the Surface Pro 7 as compared to the Surface Pro 6. One advantage that the earlier model retains is a retail price that's $50 lower. In all, the reviewer seems to think its a good fit for everyone except for gamers or other users who might need a GPU.

  2. Walmart Uses Blockchain Tech to Track Shrimp Supply Chains - On October 4, LiveMint reported that Walmart is pilot testing a project to use blockchain for tracking shrimp from its Indian suppliers to certain Sam's Club locations in the United States. National Fisheries Institute President, John Connelly, is quoted as saying, "This is reportedly the first time that blockchain technology will be used to track shrimp exports from the Indian farmer to an overseas retailer.". The company is making use of IBM's Food Trust platform. Shrimp is India's largest agricultural export, and the United States is the company's largest market for the product.

  3. The No. 1 job billionaires and multimillionaires held before they got filthy rich - According to a book by Rainer Zitelmann, they worked in sales. "roughly two in three said that their talents as sales people had been a 'significant” factor in their financial success. More than one in three said they owed 70% or more of their success to their sales talents.' A separate study, on LinkedIn, found that Sales Manager was the second most common job on profiles of thousands of CEO profiles (consultant was the most common).

  4. STEEM Restaurant Opts To Allow Customers To Pay What They Can Afford - In this post, @doitvoluntarily tells us bout Alabama's Drexell and Honeybee's restaurant, where customers are allowed to pay whatever they can afford. The restaurant uses volunteer staff, sometimes has workers who work in exchange for food, and accepts anonymous contributions in a curtained off area. According to the post, the average donation size is $5, and the restaurant generates somewhere around $110 per day. The restaurant owners don't accept salaries, and the entire operation is running as a charity project. (A 10% beneficiary setting has been assigned to this post for @doitvoluntarily)

  5. Penn research teams awarded $22M from NIH to help tackle opioids - Grants range from $550,000 to $11.2 million and cover a range of activities from a feasibility study for brain imaging in infants to a study of opioid treatment and psychiatric disorders in the context of the collaborative care model, a model that places licensed clinical social workers with mental health training into the primary care facility.
