A Wild 11-year-old Mechanic

in #11yearold7 years ago

Back to Steem Community!!!!! I am very happy and excited to be back to this community and make more friends. So, without further due I will start my first post of the day, week, and month (08/02/2017) with this interesting article.

This wild and young mechanic is a beast. He is like a destroyer and a reformer of machine and electronic devices. I went to have a conversation and conducted a small interview with him yesterday at one of the local markets in the community (kuok Snuol, Puok District, Siem Reap, Cambodia). 20616052_1808314132832165_751100533_o.jpg

I was lucky to see him fixing a old fan, and I told me all of his story. His name is Nith and he is 11 years old from my community. His mom is a rice farmer and his dad is a barber. He is the oldest son in the family and never has the chance to go to school like his other siblings.

Actually, he did attended school but for like less than a year and then he quit. Nobody cares when he quit and no one in the family asks why because he needs to go out and earns some money for himself and his family. He is a wild, young kid! He told me that he broke down any electronic devices at his home into pieces and fix them back until it works. I saw an old, rusty motorbike and I asked him if he fixed that too, and he said yes. He actually makes his old motorbike move, which I think is possible because it is so old and I thought it is a broken engine.

He doesn't stay home much, usually he goes out and observes what people are doing at the mechanic shop. He learned when he picked up a broken electric device and actually fixed it himself. Now he is staying with this couple near the community market where he can fix fans, motors, generators, electric pots, and few other things.

I personally think that this is a good skill. He is just 11 year old and can do this, which is a incredible thing. It is the skill that can help him to earn and make his living. He said he does not want to go to school and waste his time on what he is not interested, therefore he spends time on what he likes.

Kids who grow up with little toys but a lot of things to tinker with tend to be smarter and more practical...they become problem solver than troublemaker. Good job, young man!

You are exactly right @maryjanepower

I enjoy stories like these and I am sure there are many kids like Nith with hidden passions that transform into talents. Although I am a teacher, I don't believe schools are for every child and some are able to flourish and learn better outside the confinement of classrooms and books.

thanks a lot @anavictoriakong. Really nice to see you.
