On this day - 12th February in 1947 - Christian Dior revolutionised the world of fashion
It was on this day 12th Feb 1947 that Christian Dior presented his first ever fashion collection in Paris, France, and what a stir it caused!! The editor of Harper's Bazaar in New York, Carmel Snow said on seeing it "It's quite a revolution, dear Christian! Your dresses have such a new look!". And the "New Look" was born, and Dior's reputation went through the roof.
After the years of rationing and suffering during the Second World War, wonen were hungry for something different, and the style, cut and cultered elegance and eccentuated feminity of Dior's new collection proved hugely popular. Wiomen wanted to look both lady like and extravagant, and Dior in selling the dream of looking good lit a fire in the Paris fashion scene, and it hasn't looked back since that seminal collection was launched.
