The Screen Addict Recommends โ ๐๐บ๐ฏ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ
Banijayโs (clever) strategy of creating Youtube channels for a huge chunk of their library, has led me to rediscover Dragonfly Film and Televisionโs phenomenal Reality-series ๐๐บ๐ฏ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ.
This is peak TV. A soul-stirring soundtrack, gorgeous camerawork, stunning visuals... I admit this all sounds a bit crass considering the sensitive subject matter, but here we are.
The series is put together exceptionally well โ every single episode is just top notch. Also, there always seems to be at least one storyline that will basically reduce me to a blubbering mess.
This is not The Blood & Guts show, it is really about the human beings behind the tragedies and the heroes who are there for them, come hell or high water. Truly life-affirming television that deservedly won the BAFTA for Best Factual Series in 2018.
All this makes ๐๐บ๐ฏ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ a great companion piece for that other poignant, award-winning show about medics with its own Banijay-owned Youtube channel โ ๐ฎ๐ฐ ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐&๐.
As a film buff, itโs almost impossible for me to watch anything without making an association with movies. It is therefore very tempting to believe that ๐๐บ๐ฏ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ inspired the film industry to produce a slew of first-responder focused features.
The past decade or so saw the release of ๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฆ๐ธ๐๐น๐ฑ๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ (๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ด) โ remade for Netflix as ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐๐ถ๐น๐๐ (๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ญ) โ ๐๐๐ฝ๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ (๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฏ), and even Michael Bay caught on to the trend with the appropriately titled ๐๐บ๐ฏ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ (๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฎ). Martin Scorsese was of course at the forefront of it all with the late-Nineties Nicolas Cage Thriller ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ (๐ญ๐ต๐ต๐ต) but then again โ Marty isnโt called The Maestro for nothing...
In conclusion, I will quote one of the first responders featured in ๐๐บ๐ฏ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ who, when summarizing her day, unwittingly but very aptly described the show in a nutshell: โYou only die once, but you live every day.โ
Seek it out & get your fix.
