Today, I am writing about football. Another sport that I play :)
I have been playing football for as long as I can remember—from playing childishly with my father to playing with my friends daily. Football is one of the most popular sports in the world, with the FIFA World Cup 2022 Final being the most-watched sports event ever, garnering over 1.2 billion views! I was one of those viewers, and I was thrilled when I saw my favorite team win the match. The match was an interesting one with most people thinking Argentina will win after their amazing start but France making an incredible comeback sending the match to penalties where Argentina took the win.
Me and my father were feeling like we were on a roller coaster with all the adrenaline we were feeling. We were screaming GOAL! at the top of our lungs every time there was an opportunity to score.
Now, let’s talk about how the sport was invented. The history of football goes back to the medieval ages. FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) recognizes Cuju, an ancient Chinese game, as the first sport resembling football. The first written evidence of a football match dates back to England in the 1100s. Games similar to football were played all around the world in countries like Japan, Greece and Rome.

Personally, I have known about football since I was around five years old. It’s kind of like the default sport that every kid knows how to play. I guess it’s one of the simplest games—just kick a ball into a net! I usually play as a goalkeeper, the only position allowed to use their hands. In my opinion, goalkeeping is one of the most crucial roles in football. The goalkeeper is the last line of defense, the final chance to stop a goal if all else fails.
My favorite football player is Cristiano Ronaldo, followed by Lionel Messi, who is arguably the greatest player of all time. The Messi-Ronaldo rivalry is, in my opinion, the greatest sports rivalry ever. To this day, people can’t agree on who is better—Messi or Ronaldo. I prefer Ronaldo, but I still think Messi is the better player since he has more trophies.
I don’t think this debate will end until one of them retires. Ronaldo has scored more goals, while Messi has more assists. Messi has one World Cup title, whereas Ronaldo does not, but Ronaldo has five Champions League titles, while Messi has only four. Messi fans argue that the World Cup is harder to win, while Ronaldo fans claim the Champions League is the bigger challenge. In the end, both players are legends in their own right, earning their place as the GOATs of football.

Anyway, as I was saying (before this turned into a Ronaldo vs. Messi discussion), I believe goalkeepers are the most important players on the pitch. Imagine a game of football without goalkeepers—it just wouldn’t feel right!
