New Life for Old Things

It’s actually wild how much stuff we manage to accumulate over the years. And for what? Just in case? Wishful thinking that it’ll fit again? A sentimental attachment to that broken teapot from 2003? The reasons are endless, and let’s be honest… most of it never sees the light of day again until we either move, get an unexpected burst of energy for spring cleaning, or, well… someone else has to sort through it when we’re no longer around. Grim, but true.

The last few days, I’ve been knee-deep in this exact process. And when I say knee-deep, I mean my lounge currently looks like a second-hand store exploded. When we moved from Cape Town to the Overberg, everything we owned was packed up into a storage container for a year and a half. If that’s not proof that you can survive without 90% of your so-called “essentials,” I don’t know what is!

Then, when we finally got rid of the container and moved into our new “forever” home, a LOT of that stuff just got dumped into the garage… where it sat untouched for another three years. So, I decided enough is enough! It's time to go through it all, find the gems (of all kinds), and pass them on to someone who’ll actually use them instead of letting them gather dust.

Let me tell you, this is no small task. The lounge is chaos, lol! There are piles of clothes, books, kitchen gadgets, and about 150 different types of candles, haha! (Hippie Jaynie in the mix there) But you know what… once you actually get stuck into it, it’s really rather fun. You get to rediscover so many forgotten “moments”, laugh at your past shopping choices (why did I think I needed a fondue set? - That is NOT a meal! haha!), and appreciate the memories attached to certain items… before finally setting them free.

As I mentioned the other day, The Country Bumpkin was always meant to be more than just sourdough. The idea of selling second-hand goodies has been on my mind for ages because, let’s face it, there’s so much amazing stuff out there just waiting for a new home.

So, if you’re in the mood for a little digital rummage, check out my online thrift store. It’s a proper mixed bag, you never know what you might find!! And hey, maybe you’ll be the perfect new owner of my fondue set (no judgment) - promise… maybe haha! (Okay, I have not actually listed the fondue set yet haha… I am conflicted, because a cheese fondue is always a possibility… right?!!

❤❤❤

Until next time...
Much Love from Country Bumpkinland, South Africa xxx

Hah! Good for you! Its is amazing how much fine Junque we accumulate over time! And if you have the patience and passion for it, getting rid of a bunch of it can be remarkably rewarding... in more ways than one.

Hey... glad you're back; been gone myself, for a while. For whatever reason, you wre top of my feed when I just logged back in...

I'm so glad to see you here again! 😊 I really like the idea of reusing these wonderful things and finding a new life for them🙂

It's good to see you back and a glass of wine makes a world of difference if it's "time" to clean up.

🍀♥️

Exactly our experience in the context of the move! And I'm happy to emphasise again: we're not minimalist, but we're not materialistic either - we really don't have much. But we have a lot of it... ;-))
