Hope

Far away, in the lands of the ebony
Voices are crying and teeth gnashing
Tears forming ocean upon which we drawn
The affairs too hideous upon which we are mired
The relics of our political merchandise
Reminding us when in the open market of greed,
Our destinies and fates were displayed for the bidding.

After a careful feasible study, I recall,
They came as wolves in the disguise of sheep
The melodies of their sermon promised paradise on earth,
Too alluring, too tempting and too confusing!
Quality education for all was the anthem,
Provision of employment opportunities was the loudest jingle
The baits from the lions of our democratic jungle
So we hoped and hoped and hoped.

This dirty open field marks the market place for our lives
That village square indicates the centre for the agreement
While that city centre remains the banquet hall of the treaty
The bait was so insignificant yet swallowed all without a rethink
And when the deal strock, they smiled for it was done!

When the voice of reason spoke,
Their promissory notes risked rejection
So they changed the marketing strategies:
Poverty is a diseases, a plague and a curse!!!!
With hunger tearing our intestines and thirst killing us slowly
They came with peanuts, Maggi cubes and cups of rice
And again, we sold our national fate to the sons of Lucifer
In the open market of greed
And when the deal strock, they smiled for it was done.

With bottles of gins and chunks of meats,
Like Esau, we bequiet our rights
Filing behind the ballot boxes in hot hot sun
Signing this dystopia our permanent aboard.
Illiteracy hit the stamp while poverty countersigned the deal
And it was done!
So they smiled, for it was done.

Now, with our votes as warrant,
They raid the trove, charting away the treasury
As we languish in pain and in penury
Watching them lavish the treasury in luxury
Oh, what a dismal kilter!
But for how long shall this deal last?
Shall we always always renew the same treaty?
