Symbiont{s} | Steem Proposal | Advanced Improvements and Implementations to the Official Steem wallet

Greetings!

This post seeks funding from the Steem community to implement specific enhancements to the official Steem wallet, introducing additional functionalities beneficial to a broad user base. Innovation often stems from necessity, and we recognize the need to enrich the wallet's features to boost its utility and offer a ready-to-use open-source solution for all.

Our previous update added the delegation feature to the wallet, which has seen significant use and enhanced the harmony within the Steem ecosystem. Solutions that are difficult to replicate or deploy can hinder community growth and service continuity. Therefore, the community must strive for operational prosperity by developing diverse, open, and comprehensive solutions accessible to everyone. It is crucial to avoid paths that lead to monopolization and instead educate the community to make better-informed decisions.

Some might argue that the average user will not be interested in having excessive features at his disposal. This reasoning is quite correct considering that users who are only interested in blogging should not necessarily have to deal with features that are more suited for witnesses, developers, data extractors, or pure investors. However, there are several functionalities that could enhance the average user's experience and motivate them to take a more active role in the onboarding process.

We also made sure to directly contact investors and numerous community members to clearly understand what they would like to see in the wallet. We were quite impressed by the number of suggestions, but they all converged toward the idea of having essential features in one place. Some suggestions could have easily made it to the list below, but due to our approach of not relying on any third-party solutions, we could not add them. Nonetheless, we are grateful to everyone who took the time to provide feedback.

Similar to our last approach, we prefer when things are short and precise, as most of the features mentioned below are well known by most of the community. Shall we begin!

Existing Features:

1. Power Up STEEM
   Convert STEEM into Steem Power to increase voting influence and resource credits.

2. Power Down Steem Power
   Convert Steem Power back into liquid STEEM over time.

3. Transfer STEEM and SBD
   Send STEEM or SBD to other accounts directly from the wallet.

4. Secure Assets Using Savings
   Move funds to the savings balance for added security and delayed withdrawals.

5. Vote or Unvote Witnesses and DAO proposals
   Participate in witness and DAO voting to support network validators and ecosystem improvement.

6. Set an Account as a Proxy
   Delegate governance power to another trusted account to vote on your behalf.

7. Delegate and Undelegate Steem Power
   Temporarily assign Steem Power to other users or revoke previous delegations.

8. Use the Internal Market
   Trade STEEM and SBD within the Steem blockchain's built-in exchange.

Planned Improvements and Enhancements:

Utilize unused Resource Credits (RC) to claim discounted accounts.

Generate private keys and create accounts using STEEM or discounted accounts.

Update or change the designated account recovery option for security.

Convert SBD to STEEM directly from the wallet without external tools.

Receive alerts when an account recovery change is initiated.

Permanently disable governance voting rights for an account.

Manage, grant, or revoke access permissions for third-party applications and users.

Create direct delegation links with customized Steem Power amounts.

Instantly revoke any previously granted account authority.

Improve the accuracy of account value estimation.

Generate brain keys for use in witness operations.

Update or broadcast a witness.

Turn off witness node participation with a single action.

Set account(s) as a withdrawal rout that can as SP or STEEM in nature.

Create and remove funding proposals on the Steem blockchain directly from the wallet.

Segment, set-up, prepare, and sign multi-sig transactions.

Remove outdated and unused code.

Provide clear and updated documentation to improve user understanding of wallet features.

Allow users to toggle advanced functionalities based on their preferences.

Functionality Vs Aesthetics

The objective is to create a non-invasive and unobtrusive interface. Prioritize reducing redundant links and excessive titles to enhance the intuitive user experience. Additionally, we are considering implementing a system that allows users to toggle specific features based on their needs. This is crucial, especially for features like conversion and declining rights, which could lead to financial loss and irreversible account changes. Proper documentation will be added to the FAQ. Several UI improvements will likely be addressed as work progresses and feedback is provided.

Budget

Our team is committed to dedicating full-time resources to implement the proposed changes (Backend and Frontend). We are seeking a monthly funding of 4,080 SBD for a period of 12 months, equivalent to 136 SBD per day. Given the volatility of SBD, the Symbionts team will ensure any surplus funds are returned to the DAO.

Delivery process

The Symbionts team will ensure that changes are rolled out incrementally, allowing the community to quickly benefit from new features. Additionally, we aim to provide faster input feedback, enabling supporters to assess their decisions more efficiently.

Potential impact

The border change effect represents the impact of consolidation, which we and other developers should continue enhancing and updating in the future. This will make it easier to interact with Steem features that, until now, have been considered overly complicated and difficult to understand. This open and unified approach will also allow developers to focus on other aspects of the Steem blockchain by avoiding service fragmentation, enable users to take an active role in the onboarding process through a seamless and user-friendly solution, and provide investors with a comprehensive solution to manage their assets.
