Hi, my fellow steemians,

SINHALESE AND TAMIL NEW YEAR also known as Aluth Avurudda is a traditional occasion celebrating most people in Sri Lanka in April🎊🎇. This is a cultural event in our country which aims to tighten the bonds between family members and neighbors around us. Today, I would like to elaborate on how I celebrated this cheerful event with my beloved family. 😍👇

This is a most awaited time for many Sri Lankans as they can gather together and enjoy deliciously mouth-watering sweetmeats🤤, doing fun games🥳 , and enhancing their bonding with each other.

There are several auspicious times🕛 in Sinhala Aluth Avurudu Litha and the first is called “Nonagathaya”. It is also known as the inauspicious time and during this time, it is traditional to cease all forms of work🚫 and engage in religious observances.

After this inauspicious period, dawn of the new year comes🙏.

At this time family members are gathered👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 to welcome the new year by boiling of fresh milk in the newly bought clay pot. This incident denotes prosperity. The spilling of the milk from all sides of the clay pot is indicated as fortune for the entire family.

Fortune has come to the family ✌‍‍‍

The next auspicious time is for start of work, transactions and consuming of meals. When the time arrives, everybody is engaging their own works like; children are reading books📚, elder people planting new trees🌳, exchange with the well as their preference and beliefs.

Getting blessings to the life

Business transactions and money are exchanging among others, coz to seek blessings and successfulness in their business on this new year. After consuming foods, milk rice, and other sweets are arranged into plates to distribute among neighbors. It symbolizes unity amongst neighbors with no boundaries.
