BOSTON finally opened a casino this year
and it has been a long time coming.

Now that it is here, it seems to be working out okay. The Casino is located on rt.99, in a formerly industrial part of town, in the city of Everett. Everett neighbors Boston to the North. The casino has changed the area significantly but some things still remain. One of them is the constant road work rt.99 is famous for, another is the significant presence that is MIKE’s Roast Beef, rt. 99 is also famous for.

So was out with some friends, and everybody wants to go to Encore, the new casino here in town. Now I don't like casinos because, I don't like to drink so much, hate losing money and those hypocrites say no ganja smoking. Not going down without a fight, I of course. have my Eureeka Vape with me. Its a hybrid tonight, sour gelato and one of my top picks with these carts.

I also had just finished off an 80mg edible "Tea-pop" that my homie made today using some RSO/FECO, and a few fancy organic medicinal teas.

He had like 4 kinds of teas steeping overnight and 1 of the bags was of a super caffeinated green tea. The goal here is to counteract the sleepiness that can accompany the use of edibles and take advantage of some naturally occurring terpenes present in mangos and blueberries..etc..
Dope Shit! I was impressed, tastes like tea but could definitely taste that medicine too. lol. .....I love how the relaxed Cannabis laws are bringing out an entrepreneurial spirit in so many people. Very Cool.

However....
At the same time we are seeing , as I was reading in the news today, how the availability of Vapor products may be in question so, and maybe as a nervous reaction, I have been hitting mine hard all day.

Anyway...super-zooted and as we get close to the casino, when Im like no!!! Bad News. I, like a dummy, forgot my wallet. ...."womp! womp!"

But there was also Good news. I had enough money for some food at the nearby Mike's, so my homie dropped me off across the street from the luxurious Casino complex at the surprisingly good, hole in the wall restaurant, from the previous neighborhood.
While I was standing outside, mercilessly hitting the vape before going into the crowded restaurant to order a sandwich the giant glowing Encore sign gets me thinking about the "tv dinners" Encore to make, before they got into all this gambling.

The commercials featured Al, from Happy Days, the guy who ran the show's own popular Roast Beef Spot, Arnolds. In the Encore tv dinner commercials, he played the grocery clerk who would invite himself to his favorite customers houses to eat their salisbury steaks and lasagnas.

He was kind of like a tv dinner Snoop Dog,

Mysteriously showing up to eat your tv dinner but never bringing tv dinners to share with you.

Al would be crest fallen, as Mike's, sadly doesn't have Lasagna or Salisbury steak. I end up opting for the Eggplant Parm...knowing full well that they have the most amazing red sauce...this one's for you AL.

The importance of Mike's is they are one of relatively few late night eateries in the Boston Area. I have been coming here since the days of the 3ft graffix i miss so much.
While it is self described as a Roast Beef Shop, it has amazing red sauce so "everything" parmesan is delicious, including the mozzarella sticks, one of the most popular late night items.

Roast Beef is a big deal north of Boston. Instead of a slurry of mom and pop sub/grinder shops, as one would see to the West and South of Boston, The North Shore has an abundance of Roast Beef Shops and The folks in the North Shore love Roast beef. Why is "the beef" so seemingly regional?

I think I have the answer.

Kelly's Roast Beef was a big deal in the 1950's. The city of Revere has a popular beach. Revere Beach. Kelly's is the most famous restaurant to have come off of that beach. They are now one of the largest local restaurant chains in the area and are very popular locally, Not just for the Beef but also for their fried clams and lobster rolls.
Now, what I think happened was, in the 50s- 70s Everybody was going to the beach all the time, in the North Shore. Most folks dad's were away fighting all the wars, while everybody back home was at the beach, and as such, went to Kelly's for Roast Beef often.
I think in a subconscious way, Kelly Roast Beef is somehow everybody's dad, and as they come into adulthood, many Northshorians decide to open Roast Beef Shops to honor their Dad "Kelly".
